Monday February 25th from 4pm until 6pm
Venue: Burgmann Anglican School
Topic 1: The Beautiful Brain: Why Children and Young People Do What They Do – Nicole Nunan, Psychology Teacher
Understanding neuroscience is helpful in understanding some of the perplexing things those we teach do and say. Sometimes the brain, rather than the child, is the culprit for the behaviour that we’re seeing – and sometimes that’s actually an important biological function! This session takes participants on a journey into the brain to help make sense of what sometimes leaves us feeling bewildered or frustrated.
Topic 2: Strategies for Giving Voice to the Mental Health Needs of Children and Young people. Speaker will be confirmed shortly.
This session will introduce ways to remove the stigma attached to discussions about mental health and mental ill-health and how to build a culture of openness about the topic in school settings.
